Mrs. Hightower
Posts Two Bonds

  Texarkana Gazette
Thursday, August 10, 1950

Two bonds of $3000 each was posted Wednesday by Mrs. Hightower, owner and operator of Hightower Health Home, 2100 West Fifteenth.

The bonds were posted on two charges of kidnaping filed against Mrs. Hightower in connection with concealing the whereabouts of two babies from their unwed mothers.

The charges will be heard before the next grand jury.

The first kidnapping charge was filed Tuesday morning by District Attorney Maxwell Welch after he talked to a 16-year-old mother. The youthful mother told Welch Mrs. Hightower had refused to let her see the child or tell her the whereabouts of her baby boy.

The second charge was filed Tuesday afternoon by Welch who said the circumstances were similar.

Welch said he filed the first charge because the girl and her parents want the baby back. He quoted the girl as saying she went to Mrs. Hightower's establishment for the purpose of getting room and board during a three month confinement period.

The spelling of kidnapping as "kidnaping" appears in the original article.
