  Texarkana Gazette
Thursday, August 10, 1950

Bowie county grand jury returned seven indictments Tuesday and help open the case of Mrs. Ruby Hightower, operator of Hightower's Health Home who is charged on two counts with kidnapping.

The names of only two of the persons indicted were released by county authorities because the others are out on bond or are not yet in custody.

Jimmie D. Byers, 26, of 1409 West Eighth, was indicted on charges of burglary and assault with intent to rape a 30-year old mother on August1.

Nick Muldrew, 18, Texarkana Negro, was indicted in connection with the theft of six watches several weeks ago from Dabney Jewelers.

District Attorney Maxwell Welch said the Hightower case was held open while additional information in regard to the case is being obtained.

Charges against Mrs. Hightower were filed after two young unwed mothers reported that Mrs. Hightower took their babies at birth and had refused to tell whereabouts of them.
